Here's To You Both

As you can see from our ticker we are leaving Peru in seven days. Because of this I am up to my ears in packing, sorting, purging, weighing (I think we are over our weight limit and I REALLY don't want to have to pay), donating, selling, visiting, photographing and stressing about all the minutiae that comes with this kind of move, thus the blog is languishing. But, it is Father's Day and I would be remiss if I didn't at least acknowledge my two favorite Dads even if I don't have the time to do them justice.
Kenny and Isaac

My Dad and Isaac

I know they say girls tend to go for guys that remind them of their fathers when they are looking for "mr. right" and while my father and my husband are very different people in many ways, they do have several things in common. The following are some of my favorite traits shared by the dads I love best...

Kenny and our boys in Arequipa, Peru

They both:

love to read (though my husband prefers non-fiction and my Dad would rather slit his wrist)
value education
love children - especially mine
read every description of every exhibit in museums
are far neater than their wives
love to travel and do so often

Kenny and My Dad after 4 days hiking the Inca Trail

are successful in their chosen professions
are patient with children - especially mine
love music
are dedicated to their families, god and their faith
are excellent providers

Caleb and My Dad

make me laugh
are always up for an adventure or road trip
do housework
never tire of visiting churches
are humble in their professional success

Caleb and Kenny

are supportive of and kind to their wives
enjoy musical theater
have extensive wardrobes and like to shop for themselves and their wives
are generous with their time, talents and resources
make me proud to know and love them

Happy Father's Day!

Caleb's Day Out

Late last week Caleb and I went out for a few hours to have Caleb and Mommy time. First, we took a taxi (Caleb's favorite thing to do - probably because there are no carseats involved - I know what you're thinking, and I've thought all of those same things myself and suffice it to say I have been able to rationalize taking him out sans car seat occasionally - so I do not need a slew of comments about how foolish, unsafe, illegal - though, not in Peru - I am being). Then we went to the shoe place - look for a future post dedicated to this adventure. After that we went to the park to watch the paragliders,

play on the jungle gym;

slide;

and; swing.

Then we went to Larco Mar, an outdoor shopping center built on the edge of cliffs

overlooking the Pacific Ocean,

to play some arcade games

and ride a few rides.

Next, we had a very delicious and nutritious lunch here,

and I made Caleb wear this crown, against his will (until he saw the after shot on the camera and decided it was pretty cool).

Then we rode the escalators about 8000 times and I ran to the bottom on the last ride to snap a quick shot.

Finally, we took another taxi home and Caleb fell asleep exhausted from our eventful outing.

Pick Me!

My new friend Tristan is hosting a contest on her blog and with this post I am both entering and giving her some much deserved publicity. You see, Tristan is a creative force in the blogging universe and is generously offering her talents to 2 winners. The first place winner of this context receives a custom designed blog including header, sidebar and background - just imagine! The second place winner receives a new header designed to reflect the author. As I have next to no creative abilities, period, I am delighted at the prospect of being one of these lucky recipients.

Go to Tristan's blog and her blog design site My Daisy Baby Blog Designs and see for yourself what wonderful things can be done to spice up on your life and that of your readers. And cross your fingers for me and maybe the next time you come visit my new look will bowl you over!!

PS: Tristan, I know it is a random drawing,
but how can you resist this face?
And no, I am not above shameless self-promotion!
