Location, Location, Location

We have just learned this week where the State Department is sending us next. After an anxious and excited wait, we have received our assignment and expect to begin our tenure there sometime in late Summer 2008. Just for fun, we are letting our faithful readership test their divination and geography skills with only the facts below as a guide. The first correct answer will be appropriately recognized (be first and you'll find out exactly what that means...).

Our next country post:

1. Is Spanish speaking

2. Borders a major body of water

3. Has some of the happiest citizens in the world (according to the "World Values Survey" - whatever that is)

4. Has a tri-colored flag (think primary)

5. Is home to one of the largest lakes in the world

6. Contains part of the Amazon Jungle/Rainforest

7. Claims the cuatro as its national musical instrument

8. Has more than 25 million people

9. Has occasional food shortages - we're really looking forward to that

10. Lists baseball as the most popular sport

Any guesses?

Need a hint?
It's one of the countries on this map

Wow, Venezuela. What an interesting place to be going right now. If you remember, Paul served his mission in Maracaibo. He'll be excited to hear that is where you guys are headed next.

Oh, this is so exciting! I love games! I'm going to guess Chile, although you said nothing about the mountains so it's probably Venezuela.

They likey baseball!
But I don't think their primary language is Spanish.
I don't really understand what your husband does. Military? How long do you get to stay there?

You're moving too? What is with the mass exodus? Okay, you and Heather leaving don't quite constitute a mass exodus but still I feel a bit bad for Peru, though.

And the winner is, Jessica! We are indeed off to Venezuela, though I really would have preferred Chile, but what can you do?

Nor, he is not in the Military, he works for the US Department of State as a Political Officer in the Diplomatic Corps (we have black passports). In a nutshell, his job is to help foster and maintain positive relationships between the US Government and other governments (this will be harder in Venezuela than it has been in Peru). He's like the nicest person on the planet so he is very good at his work.

And, of course, you are all welcome to visit, we'll be VERY close to Aruba and Curacao.

Does this mean you can park wherever you want and you can commit crimes?
